November - The Month of Citrine and Topaz

Citrine and Topaz, the birthstones of November.

Since our last blog about the month of birthstone things has changed, very unfortunately we are back into a national lockdown again! We sincerely hope you all stay safe and follow the government guidelines to stay at home as much as possible to protect yourself and the others. Just like many other months throughout the year, November is also associated with two unique gemstones - Citrine and Topaz. Topaz varied from a spectrum of colours including colourless, light blue, yellow, orange, pink, violet, brown and, very rarely, red; Citrine is well known for its charming yellow and orange hues. Both November birthstones are known to have calming energies while bringing fortune and warmth to the wearer. All the topaz and citrine birthstones jewelleries are affordably priced in ikku London, and they often have less competitive price than the other main precious stones like emerald, ruby and sapphire. This means that those born in November have many options to choose from. Your challenge will be deciding which one to pick.

Topaz most common colour is colourless and it is often mistaken for a diamond, in our limited collection - Diapiary you can see how this beautiful gem can cause such an illusion. Topaz is an ancient gem first founded by the Romans over two millennia ago on the island of Topazios in the Red Sea, and was also worshipped in the old Egypt where they both believed it could protect its wearer from enemies and bring reconciliation. During the 18th Century gold rush, Brizilian topaz became extremely popular amongst European aristocracy. The most famous topaz, weighing 1780 carats was originally mistaken as a diamond set in the Portuguese Crown Jewels which is also named as The “Braganza Diamond”.

Citrine is a very accessible gemstone, it comes in a wide range of shapes and sizes, including very large sizes at a relatively affordable price. The gemstone is particularly popular among celebrities including Emma Watson, Kate Winslet, Naomie Harris and Tara Reid have all been photographed wearing beautiful citrine jewellery at red carpet events. In 2015, Angelina Jolie notably donated a large citrine necklace to the Smithsonian Institution’s National Gem Collection.
